Achromatic Waveplate
Achromatic waveplate is made from two different substrate materials such as crystal quartz and magnesium fluoride. For the single material waveplates the working wavelength is very limited because of the dispersion of the material. While Achromatic Waveplate use two different kinds of material, the dispersions of the birefringence are also different. Hence such waveplate is not sensitive to the wavelength change.
Zero Order Waveplate
The zero order waveplate is designed to give a retardance of zero full waves, plus the desired fraction. Zero order waveplate shows better performance than multiple order waveplates. It has broad bandwidth and a lower sensitivity to temperature and wavelength changes. It should be considered for more critical applications. Zero Order Waveplate is always been provided with Cemented zero order, Optically Contacted zero order or Air Spaced zero order according to their processing differences.
Dual Wavelength Waveplate
Dual Wavelength Waveplate is a special kind of multi order waveplate. Dual wavelength waveplate is designed to be used in dual wavelength setups, for instance, λ/4@1064nm + λ/2@532nm at the same time. Usually it is used to adjust the polarization state of the laser beams to obtain maximum conversion efficiency.
Multi Order Waveplate
Multiple order waveplate means the retardance of a light path will undergo a certain number of full wavelength shifts in addition to the fractional design retardance. The thickness of multi order waveplate is usually around 0.5mm. Multi order waveplate has advantages on damage threshold, parallelism and wavefront distortion than zero order waveplate, but it weaker on sensitivity to wavelength and temperature changes. However, they are less expensive.
Single Plate High Power Waveplate
The thickness of single plate high power waveplate can be reduced down to 20 microns. Usually it is mounted in a Ø25.4x6mm black anodized ring mount to protect it from being damaged. It has unique advantage on high power applications.
True Zero Order Waveplate
True Zero Order Waveplate is constructed by one quartz plate and one BK7 substrate. Becuase the thickness of a true zero order quartz plate is very thin, it is very easily damaged. BK7 is used to increase the strength.
